Why it Costs More to Raise Daughters Than Sons

What parents in have long known and never really talked about is that it costs more to raise daughters than sons. It's probably all the money spent on clothes, acting, dance and music classes and sports clubs, girls want and require that contributes to this gender phenomenon.

Studies show that parents will spend on average more than $1500.00 dollars a year for their daughters personal needs and activities, That's a final tally of around $27,000 spent on the little princesses between the ages of 5 and 18.

Boys in this range are lower to maintain and will cost parents $1900 a year and $25,000 over the same 13 year time frame.

Ed Bowsher, of financial advice website lovemoney.com which performed the study says,'Everyone knows that bringing up a child is expensive.'

'But it's interesting to see that those with daughters will end up forking out more cash in the long run. I'm sure a lot of it is down to a girl's love of clothes and fashion.

'Unfortunately, it seems there never is a "good" time to start a family, especially if you end up with a family full of girls.

'Even once they reach their late teens, it doesn't get any better, with parents paying for driving lessons and even helping towards their first car.'

The study shows both sexes receive birthday presents of equal value, and more is lavished on sons than daughters at Christmas time.

Not to be outdone, girls make up for this by having lavish birthday parties. Bowsher wraps it up by saying, 'Even once they reach their late teens, it doesn't get any better, with parents paying for driving lessons and even helping towards their first car.'
